Personal Protection in the Home

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense. The legal ramifications of using lethal force are covered in detail by a sworn law enforcement officer or attorney who is also a defensive handgun trainer. Individualized attention is assured by assigning each student an experienced defensive handgun coach for the duration of the course.

Basic Pistol is a prerequisite for this course.

Topics Covered:

Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.

Equipment:

1. Any centerfire handgun in good operating condition that is suitable for self-defense and fires non-magnum ammunition
   • Example: (.357 Magnum pistol O.K. if .38 Special ammunition is used.)
   • Note: NO single shot handguns or Western-style "cowboy" single-action revolvers
2. Two extra magazines (Semi-automatics) or speed loaders (revolvers)

Requirements:

1. Eye and ear protection is required on the indoor and outdoor range
2. You must be a club member (senior or spousal) to enroll
   • Junior members cannot take this course
3. A non-refundable payment of $195.00 is required in advance and in full to register

A LOTTERY WILL BE HELD THE NIGHT OF JANUARY 25TH AT 7:30 PM IN THE CLUB HOUSE TO FILL REMAINING CLASS SPACES.

RULES:

1. You may pick up a Lottery Ticket, ONLY ONE TICKET PER PERSON, the night of the drawing beginning at 6PM.
2. You may have a surrogate attend the lottery drawing for you, but they must comply with all rules below and must have your membership credentials present at the drawing.
3. YOU OR YOUR SURROGATE MUST BE PRESENT AT THE DRAWING TO REGISTER FOR THE CLASSES.
4. You must bring a completed registration form and a check for the full amount due the night of the drawing. IF YOU DO NOT BRING PAYMENT IN FULL THE NIGHT OF THE DRAWING YOU FORFEIT YOUR PLACE AND ANOTHER TICKET WILL BE DRAWN.
5. All others rules regarding eligibility as stated are still in effect
6. If your ticket is drawn after Personal Protection is filled, you may register for Basic Pistol; if you wish to also attend Personal Protection, your name will be put on a wait list. If a space opens up in the classes due to cancellations, you will be notified in the order the tickets were picked.
7. Once all classes are filled, there will be a second lottery drawing immediately following to fill 5 WAIT LIST spaces for Basic Pistol and, if necessary Personal Protection. If a space opens up in the classes due to cancellations, you will be notified in the order the tickets were picked.
